GCC News: Latest Developments
As we navigate through these unprecedented times, we want to keep our community informed about the latest developments at GCC. Although our physical doors are officially closed, our commitment to providing engaging and enriching programming remains strong.
Ongoing Programs
We are excited to announce that "Greenwood on the Go" offers our Creative Aging program, designed to inspire and engage older adults in photography with Eyakem Gulilat and special guest, Don Thompson. This initiative not only promotes artistic expression but also fosters social connections, proving that creativity knows no age limits. The program is offered with support from the Oklahoma Arts Council, Arts Alliance Tulsa, and Tulsa Artist Fellowship.
Legacy Award Dinner
The Legacy Award Dinner salutes Stuart Price, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Tulsa College of Law, Tulsa energy industry leader, community volunteer, education advocate, and political devotee. Price’s life’s work revolves around creating a better, more inclusive Tulsa for all, a vision shared by GCC and many others. Kirk J. Hays serves as this year's Honorary Chair. The Legacy Award Dinner will be held on April 30, 2026, at the University of Tulsa.
The Legacy Award Dinner is GCC’s single fundraising event. GCC relies on the Legacy Award Dinner to provide the vital financial support needed to continue its critical historical, cultural, and educational work in the Tulsa community. Our goal is to raise $150,000 to support ongoing programs and new, interactive exhibits.
Summer Programming on the Horizon
Looking ahead, we are in the planning stages for an exciting summer program at a site in North Tulsa. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that GCC remains a vibrant hub of culture and learning, even from a distance.
Genealogy Workshops
We are particularly thrilled about our upcoming genealogy workshops, held in collaboration with the City of Tulsa and Intermountain Forensics. These free workshops are designed to help participants uncover their family histories and learn about the tools available for genealogical research. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or just beginning your journey, these sessions will provide valuable insights and resources.
Stay Connected
We encourage everyone to stay connected with us through our website and social media channels, including the new Xclusiv app. Download the free app and stay connected to organizations and businesses in our community. Updates on programming, workshops, and exhibits will be shared regularly, keeping you informed and engaged. Your support and participation are vital to our mission, and we look forward to continuing to serve our community in innovative ways. While we may be physically closed, our passion for creativity, learning, and community connection remains unwavering. We are excited about the future and look forward to welcoming you back to GCC when renovations are complete.
As we move forward, we remember the words of Maya Angelou: “History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.” Together, we face history with courage. Together, we build a future rooted in understanding and respect.
Let us continue this journey side by side, honoring the past and inspiring the future. The Greenwood Cultural Center is more than a place; it is a living story, and you are part of it.
